Datron Reception System

Quorum Communications was responsible for integrating a Datron positioning pedestal with a feed and control system. Quorum designed a rackmount servo control system and tracking computer for this application. These systems are currently used in Norway, Turkey, and Malaysia.

Program Tracking Computer / Receiver

This program tracking computer was designed to control the Datron system shown above. The rackmount system has a color LCD display, pull out keyboard and an integrated Drivebay Receiver.

Minirack for AMB Router and Receiver

This minirack is an optional part of the M-22 Flat Panel System. It allows the AMB Router, M-22 receiver, and KIV-7 unit to be housed for easy transport. The mini-rack case contains an internal universal voltage power supply for all three units.

NASA L-S Band Feed

Custom feed designed for NASA to retrofit an older Datron system. This unit is used to characterize the emergency beacon transponder on various satellites. Unit consists of a highly filtered feed and low noise amplifier for both L and S bands. Polarity can be selected both LHCP and RHCP and the signals are downconverted via a GPS locked LO to a lower frequency for processing.

NASA L-S Band Downconverter

Custom dual downconverter unit designed for NASA for L and S band service. This unit features very selective cavity filters, GPS phase locked oscillators, and a high dynamic range IF sub-system. Downconverter and power supply unit is built into a machined O-ring sealed pressurized housing.

Diplexed S Band TX/RX Feed/Downconverter

S band feed/downconverter with TX port. This unit was used for T&C (Telemetry and Control) on S Band polar orbiting satellites. The unit is RHCP (system) and allowed simultaneous S band transmit and receive. A very selective diplex filter was used to split the TX and RX paths. The receive side contained a very low noise amplifier, filters, and a phase locked downconverter.

L/S Feed/IFD

This integrated feed/downconverter is used to receive both the NOAA HRPT transmissions on L band and the military DMSP/Windsat satellite downlinks on S band. The feed is RHCP (system)and contains preselector filters for both L and S band. The downconverters use dual phase lock local oscillators.

Complete feed unit. The MS connector is used for control and can also be used to power the feed.

Linear/RHCP Feed IFD

L band feed/downconverter that can be switched between right hand circular and linear polarization to allow tracking systems the ability to receive geosynchronous satellites during non-tracking periods.

EOS Feed

Custom dual polarity X band feed/downconverter used for characterizing reception of a NASA X band phased array in an orbiting satellite. This unit allows simultaneous reception of RHCP and LHCP signals. It downconverts the 8-8.5GHz band to 950-1450MHz.

Alaska L Band Feed

Low noise RHCP feed used for L band HRPT reception in Pt. Barrow, Alaska. This unit was designed to allow reception in the presence of high EMI levels from a radar system close by. Note the multi-pole cavity filter placed between the circular feed and the LNA.

  Feed installed on antenna.

Prodelin Low Noise Scalar

Integrated L band scalar feed and high performance downconverter. This unit was designed for Harris Corporation and is used on a 12 foot tactical antenna for weather satellite reception. The unit provided a receive G/T of 13.6-14.0dB at L band. The integrated feed has an input preselector filter to prevent cell phone and radar overload to the front end.

2.4 Meter Datron System Feed

L band RHCP feed/downconverter used for NOAA polar orbiting satellite reception. This feed contained an input coupler before the LNA to allow remote testing of the feed.

G/T testing before shipment to Malaysia.
